best lockers? and best tires? 4.10s and 33s
Hi guys, I've got a 2015 Wrangler 2-door sport 3.6 auto that I'm getting ready to put 33's and 4.10s on. I'm looking for a set of lockers that I can engage and disengage when need be, fit in the 27-spline dana 30 front and 30-spline dana 44 rear, and cost less than $1k each. I'm also debating between a 33x12.50r15 set of toyo M/Ts and goodyear MT/Rs. If anyone has any experience with any of these, please, don't hold back. THANKS!!!
P.S.- I'm only 17 and on a tight budget so price matters!

Both tire choices are excellent.
For lockers, I've always ran ARB lockers. When I decide to upgrade the axles on my current 2015 Rubicon, I will go with ARB lockers again. They have never, ever let me down, and I'm not very nice to them. However, they are expensive and require the addition of an air compressor. But they are the only locker I can 100% recommend.

Add up all the costs. (2 grand for lockers + 2 grand for gears + install = ?)
Then start looking for a set of take-off axles from a rubicon. (some newer years have an option of 3.73 or 4.10, so verify the ratio)
If you can't find any, check the Ebay deal. Lots of recent threads about crate front rubi's for 1700-ish.
If non of that sounds good, look at the Eaton E-Locker. No extra air sources, 4-pin at both ends.
You should also read through a few dozen threads on the Detroit truetrac.
Then start looking for a set of take-off axles from a rubicon. (some newer years have an option of 3.73 or 4.10, so verify the ratio)
If you can't find any, check the Ebay deal. Lots of recent threads about crate front rubi's for 1700-ish.

Yeah, agree with above. You should be able to get into a set of Rubi axles with 4.10s for about $3k. You can sell your stock axles for around $1200-$1500 (maybe more since they're new). Net cost is under $2k. In addition, anyone can swap an axle, so no need to pay for labor. Lastly, wiring the lockers is very easy and doesn't require you purchase a compressor.
I'm only gonna have my jeep for the next year and a half before I'm off to college and my sister will be driving the jeep while I'm gone, so I'm not moving up from 33s anytime soon (I worry that she wont realize how crappy the braking is with tires that heavy until it's too late). I don't know what my parents will ultimately end up doing with it, so I'm not ready to go for the whole rubi-axle swap yet. Lockers may not even be within my reach, as I owe my dad money and he keeps getting angrier every time I even think about putting something in my jeep and now he wants $300 at the first of every month :/ . im definetly going to get tires this summer and if I get my parents to commit to keeping it for me until I graduate, I might start buying bumpers and the whole nine (and eventually 35s or 37s). IF being the key word there.

Lockers are a shit-ton expensive, is your 16 yo sister really going to need them when she gets the Jeep in two short years? Slap a winch on the front and just pull yourself out of sticky situations. You'll score bonus points with chicks when you winch them out of the snow too.
Last, increase your wheel size for those new shoes. Some 15" wheels are known rub the brake calipers. Better yet, just score a complete set Rubicon take offs for $500-$1000. Why buy expensive tires when your sister is just going to wear them out?

What is your current axle gear ratio? My '12 fully equipped JKU with 3.73's handles my 33" Toyo M/T's just fine, and I live in the Appalachian Mountain chain. Your JK is at least 1000lbs lighter, look into that...

What wheels do you have now? you ave good ideas but not the wallet. I have been running 33X12.5R15 Dura Tracs on MB Chaose wheels for a few years and they have been good. For the money they are a good tire. But to your point, if you have 16" or 17" wheels that will take the extra width just get a set of spacers instead of swapping rims. I had 18s on mine and did not want the big of a wheel so went the way of the 15s for now. Lockers are a serious investment. Remeber, it is not just the cost of the locker but the installation cost. Setting up the gears is not something for a novice. Now if you are good at something like that then it will save you some. Lot of good advice has been given here so take your time and plan it out carefully. I would have loved to be in your shoes when I was 17. Instead I had a Vega that I treated like a Jeep. Didn't last long
