Power Tank: A Brief History
In 1997 – 1999 Steve Sasaki ran the company out of his 2-car garage. He would purchase boxes of regulators and would have to make modifications to them. The gauges came with a gold finish so he would remove the gauges, disassemble them, paint them black, and reassemble. The nut/nipple was a standard length so he’d have to remove them and turn them down on the lathe at his full time job (Specialized Bicycles) and then re-cut the threads. The bottles were raw aluminum with a brushed finish that got dirty soon after they were purchased. The handles were tig welded in-house and often not perfectly straight.
The early SuperFlow regulators worked well and with a very high flow rate but there were a couple of mechanical issues with them. So in 2002 he, along with a new supplier, developed a whole new type of SuperFlow regulator which solved all of the issues of the old design and had a higher flow rate for better performance. This new model used an aluminum body for better heat transfer, an internal pressure release valve replacing a fabric diaphragm and a seat assembly that was virtually indestructible. A few years later we designed the Smart Gauges for the regulators which told which pressure to use for different applications. About this time, we noticed that our warranty issue rate was so low we began to offer a limited lifetime warranty, unheard of in the regulator world.
In 2010 we developed the SuperFlow HP250 which bumped the performance up about 10%, changed the knob from a rubber to a knurled aluminum and made the unit more easily serviceable. With better machining methods we redesigned the Power Grip Guard. The TIG welds, the weakest point of the handles, were replaced with stainless steel bolts. Today the Power Tank has the best warranty, the highest flow rate performance, and the best reliability of any OBA system on the market.
Here are some pictures of some old Power Tanks along with the newest model. Enjoy!!

We'll come by and see you at the show! Never had any issues with the PowerTank it's been one item that has been rock solid. Would like to set up the tank to become a back up to my OBA for my lockers.
