Hey guys,

Picked up a Rubi takeoff D44 yesterday, and upon closer inspection today, I noticed there's some in and out play in the axle shafts. About 1/8 to 1/4 inch. Is this something to be worried about? Or will it go away once I install rotors? Here's a quick video of it: https://youtu.be/rl_-t0jTNB8

Nevermind - retaining plate just needed tightening.

 

Was gonna say I don't remember mine doing that!

 

The retaining plate nuts should be torqued with blue loctite.

 

Yea - 45 ft/lbs is what I've seen, sound right? A bit of a newb to axle swap land...

Yes, 45 ft/lbs.
If they are loose, they either loosened on their own, or were loosened by someone.
In either case, you should remove them and install new nuts.

The amount of play you detected certainly called for further investigation. A small amount of play is normal, though. Not that they all have some play, but a lot of them do.

 

For some reason my rear rubicon shafts have about 1/16 or 1/8 outward play. All my bolts are torqued down properly. Friends rubicon has the same issue as well... Not sure if it's supposed to be that way or what. Maybe yes because of the locker?

 

It's that way due to manufacturing tolerances. The bearing retainer doesn't get shimmed when it's installed and bolted on. So, it's made a little loose, which is better than having the bearings too tight.
I'd prefer to shim them to minimize the looseness, but they seem to be doing well as is. They're not failing all over the place.
