Default Axle Housing/ RCV axles

Quick question, do all aftermarket axle housings (Dynatrac, Teraflex, etc) require the use of RCV axle shafts? If so why?

Nope, use whatever you want. Both have direct replacement housings for stock rubicon d44 front axles, just swap the parts. Tera has a d30 housing, same thing. Or choose the other version of the housings and use any alloy 30 spline shaft and any standard locker, or move up to 35 spline. Up to you. I think you keep seeing RCV's just because they are popular in the aftermarket housings. (if you are spending 4-5 grand, what's another $400 or whatever for rcv's instead of alloys...)

Dynatrac doesnt require.
They come with standard dana spicer joints and shafts and u have options for upgrades at a price such as CTM ujoints or RCV shafts if u got more money u need to burn along with just buying an axle assembly. I burned plenty with them! :-)

There are two different prorock44s. Factory rubicon replacement only; which you can use any axle shaft for dana44. The second dynatrac housing non-rubicon; you have to use an rcv axle shaft or have a shop modify the axle shaft. The rcv is designed for dynatrac. So no modification required. As for the teraflex I don't believe this is required.

Fair enough. I stand corrected. I was half right.

I'm not sure about this. I am running regular 30spline alloy inners and the stock 32sp outers from my bent d30 in my standard (non-rubicon) PR44.

Unless something has changed. This is straight from dyntrac. Since they redid their website I can't find this document hosted.

Thanks for the clarification. I am looking to replace my Dana 30 and do not want to be forced to use RCV axles. So if I am starting with a new axle housing I can get a "Rubicon" aftermarket housing and use any axle shaft, locker, gears etc. that I want to?

No. If you decide to purchase a Rubicon recplament housing you are limited to the factory rubicon locker or ARB's 35spl direct replacement. (Unless something has changed) your options are very limited to which locker can me used (2). The other housing (non-rubicon) you can use any conventional locker.

What's your email. I'll send you this dyntrac document. Sums everything up well
