So I'm sure somebody has done a write up before on this but I couldn't find it. I'm curious on what to do when us weekend warriors have a failure to drivetrain components. I'm Assuming on the drive shaft failure would be pretty easy as removing said driveshaft and making your JK 2wd. Thanks in advance for the info. Pictures and stories would be great!

ditto. I have no problem changing a drive shaft but I want to know about the axle shafts. I see videos of swapping them out if carrying and extra but what if not extra and even if an extra what if the splines break off in the gear side of the axle how do you cope with getting the broken off piece out?

Pull front shafts if broke and drive. Blown front dif pull shafts and driveshaft. Rear is another issue.i carried spare rear shafts. I spose you could pull carrier apart and install just the carrier and run no rear driveshaft and use 4wd.

Thanks for the info. So hopefully if I have an issue it's the front and not the rear.

Must be a trick question.
Depends on how many biting insects are around at the time

Where we wheel, no insects, just Bears and Mountain lions. And they won't help you pull an axle out no matter how nicely you ask them.

I hear ya. Same with black flies / deer flies / and mosquitoes. They'll take you out but there are usually thousands at a time taking a whole sh-t load of little pieces of you with them.
And bears are everywhere.

This happened to a friend's rear two years ago. What we did...

Take a stock antenna and clip end ball off. Remove both axle shafts (so need two jacks/jackstands). Push the antenna (duct taped to something long enough to fit in tube) through the "good" tube, past cross pin, push broken spline end out. We had trail shafts spares, so he was good to go after...

I keep that "trail antenna" in my jeep to this day.

Fixed one tonight. Put a piece of 1/2" PVC down the axle tube, then put a piece of rod on the stick welder and shorted it to the broken off piece of axle. Works perfect and took 5 min.

We had a guy break the ear off the from shaft at the u-joint on a snow run. We pulled the shaft, cut the joint apart and separated the inner and outer shafts. Stuffed a rag down the tube and reinstalled with only the outer shaft. Wheeled the rest of the trail in 3wd and got him home and fixed up.
