Default Quadratec Quick Release Mirror Movers with Square Head WHISTLING...

So I purchased a set of these mirrors from Quadratec and installed them last weekend for some doors-off driving. They worked as designed and provided much better view back than the old bike mirrors that I had been using. The only problem was that around 80 kms/hr (50 mph), they whistle. They whistle LOUD. Has anyone had any similar experience with these mirrors, and more importantly, has anyone figured out how to stop the whistling? I tried black Gorilla Tape over several parts, to no avail. I do like them, but have no reservations with customizing to stop the sound. Thanks all!

I got these free with the Hoss hardtop storage cart and they whistle as well. I just deal with it. I thought about ordering the round mirrors to see if the whistle. I'll follow up with the outcome.

I got some black silicon and put a bead around the outside edge. It was very squared off with a rubber gasket around the outside. Smoothed it all out with the silicon and it's quiet now.

That's a good idea.

I have the round one and like the guy said they make noise also. However, since I put mud terrains on my jk the loud hum going down the road blocks out the whistle. It's a jeep. It's the price of doing business.

I have the round ones. My drivers side whistles. I have not had my doors off enough to fix it, but I have placed my hand around it at various points and found the spot that whistles. Planning on experimenting with tape, then a permanent solution.
Kind of reminds me of my childhood as the mirrors on our 1971 Dodge van we use to take cross country road trips in, whistled just the same. But I rather not have that nostalgia with the Jeep.

I actually have the round ones too. I'd imagine the source of the problem is the same with both. Try the silicon.

Thanks for the feedback, folks. At least I'm not alone. fultonromero12, my tires do a fair job of drowning some of the noise also, but while I expect things on the Jeep to be rough around the edges, I don't think that a product developed specifically for this vehicle should have that much of a quirk. Basic testing before release should have caught that, as it's not like they have been adapted to the JK. They appear to have been designed specifically for it. Maybe I expect too much. The square heads were also quite a bit bigger than I had expected. Shoulda grabbed the round ones. Oh well. Off to try the silicone...

Where exactly did you put the silicone? Around the outside edge of the mirror itself or the mounting bracket? Pics?
