Default Adjustment "knobs" on Rancho RS 9000XL

My new RS9000XL shocks came with the little red adjustment knob at the top, with a line on it pointing straight up...to adjust the numbered settings, are the knobs to be turned clockwise or counterclockwise to the desired setting??? there were no instructions packed with these at all....thanks

Turning the knob all the way clockwise will set it at the firmest settings.
It can be tough to turn it the first few times.
Going back counter clockwise will soften it.
The knob should be at the bottom of the shock tube.
A lot of people will hit them with an additional clear coat for added protection.
Hope this helps!

Default Those knob adjusters can be a pita

to find what setting your on after there on the jeep for a while for sure. They should have numbers on the body of the shock with one defined arrow on the knob. They dont always make a distinct clicks too, so you cant always tell how many clicks you have turned . Maybe in the future Rancho could improve on this . ?
But still glad i bought mine the ride is so much better all around from stock type shocks
You wont regret the purchase ..

My understanding was that they are commonly installed "upside down" (adjuster at the top) to avoid knocking the adjuster off on the trail. Is there a problem doing it that way?

Actually I believe they're installed "backwards" with the knob facing the axle.

This ^^

Also, removing the knob and packing grease inside helps seizing.

Not upside down, shock will not dampen effectively.

Yep! spin them 180 and you can still access the knob on the lower shock mount.

Default adjuster goes on bottom

you still have access to the knobs / Thats what was said by rancho when mine were installed ,not to reverse the direction of shocks . Besides my rear shocks came with plastic boot on them that wouldnt even look right if you did with out altering the shock .

Good luck / post a

i ordered some black boots for front shocks i didnt care for red

To grease the knob, just pull straight out? Mine, new are super hard to turn. Had to wear gloves. Btw are your favorite front/rear setting? Also is it from firm or loose?

This video may offer some inspiration.
They are often times hard to turn the first few times, FYI. I personally turn them once a quarter on both my diesel and my JK.
Turning clockwise will firm up the shock.
