Default 2007 Steering Gearbox on a 2010

I'm replacing my steering gearbox here in the near future, and while looking at pricing I had a holy jesus moment.

500 bucks for a rebuilt 2010 JKUR steering gear

Then i commenced some more searching. ~200 bucks for a 2007 JKUR

They should be completely compatible right? I know they switched suppliers early on, but the gear boxes are identical on the outside, which would lead me to believe that they are 100% useable across the JK years.

Thoughts?

EDIT: This was supposed to go in the stock JK section. Caffeine fueled posting is never a good thing.

car-part.com. Just looked and there are a ton. Just get one from a year close to yours or newer. They are specific between, 2dr and 4dr, so don't mix those.

Any reason on getting them closer to my year or newer? The 07 used a Delphi gearbox, which seems to be better quality.

I honestly don't know. There were a lot of tweaks in 2007 alone and many since. Sorry I can't help more.

I don't have an answer on fitment either, just a comment that the delphi boxes being rebuildable might be a big plus in itself, rather than another throw-away.

One thing you might try is just shooting off a few emails to the folks who rebuild them. West Texas Offroad? (you could even ship it to them to have it ported before you install, just in case you ever want to go that route)

Steering gearboxes across the years are one hundred percent compatible. The 4 door has a little quicker turning rate.

Problem solved. If youre going to get a rebuilt gearbox, aim for the 07. 300 bucks cheaper.

The rusty 07-08 (?) box is what you want. Something changed in the later years. The newer boxes are painted black.
