I just replaced my 2008 Rubicon Unlimited seats with 2013 Rubicon Unlimited seats.

My question is pertaining to the front seats...
The 2008 were equipped with side airbags.
I am not sure about the 2013, but they don't seem to have side airbags.

There is a difference in the wiring harnesses.
For 2008:
Driver Side - there are two wiring harnesses (one smaller yellow, one larger black)
Passenger Side - there is only one wiring harness (one smaller yellow)

for 2013:
Driver Side - there is only one wiring harness (one larger black)
Passenger Side - there are zero wiring harnesses

Questions:
1. Does anyone know what the separate wiring harnesses are for in the 2008?
2. Does anyone know what the wiring harness is for in the 2013?
3. How do i fix this issue? Do I need any new wiring harness connectors?

Noticeably, my seat belt light is on...which I'd like to get rid of.
- I couldn't do the method where you buckle your seatbelt 3 times in 10 seconds (because the new seat doesn't have a seat belt sensor)
- I tried the paperclip / wire fix by placing them in the floor wiring harness holes...but the lights are still on (and the dinging sound)

anyone have any experience or suggestions?
I am not 100% sure I'm doing the wire/paperclip trick correctly.

I'd like to turn off my seat belt warning all together. I don't care if it functions properly...

Well, one thing obvious is that side air bags have been and continue to be an option. I'd guess only a small number come with them. My guess is that the side air bags will no longer work, but you better make darn sure that is the case.

 

I'm actually happy with NO AIRBAGS, as i'm getting the trek armor/bartact seat covers...

but i need to figure out a solution for the seat belt lights.
how do i override the system?

 

The yellow connectors are the airbag connectors. The black one one the driver side is the seat belt alarm and the sometimes there is a black one on the passenger side which would be the weight sensor for the passenger airbag. You will need to go to the dealer and have them flash the airbag computer to delete those options.

 

As mentioned, the yellow harness is for the side air bags you no loner have. The black wiring harness is for your seat belts.

After doing my cage I installed aftermarket seats and harnesses. I kept the drivers side sensor and seatbelt buckle and zipped tied them under my seat to fool the computer into thinking I have my seatbelt on. You may need to do the same thing or pick up a new sensor and harness.

BARTACT now has Airbag friendly covers, just FYI... I got the first set right here!

 

Jayjk I have been looking for the Trek Armor/ Bartact with the side airbag option for my 14 JKUR. They still aren't listed on their website and my Trek Armors were just delivered. Where did you find them?

 

I went direct with them. Called at handled it over the phone.

 

Seems as though this would be the best way to go. Run over to your local junk yard, cut out two belt buckles from a JK, and slap those into your belt latches. This way your factory harness remains unmodified in case you ever decide to go back to your factory setup in the future. Sometimes the easiest way is the best way. Remember the KISS rule. Been eyeballing some seats and this is the way I'm gonna go.
