Default I read the sticky

I read every post on the sticky by Dirtman, just wanted to put that out there first. Great info I've just never lifted anything before and I'm more of a learn by doing kinda guy. I'm looking at doing a 4" lift, I see in the forums that the synergy steering correction kit is highly recommended. In the steering correction kit instructions it says it requires 3" or 4" bumpstops. My question is will I actually loose 1" or 2"of up travel with this kit from my stock set up or am I misunderstanding? Thanks

2008 unlimited rubicon, auto, 1.5 wheel spacers on stock rims, 285/70/17, body armor mid-stubby with 10,000 X2O with cable.

I am glad you took the time to read the stickies, you're a step ahead of most people here lol

A 4" lift is pretty tall and introduces more work than is really necessary. What size tire do you want to run and then decide what needs to be done to clear those tires. A lot of folks run 35s with a 2.5" and stock fenders with properly spaced rims. With some trimming of fenders and body work you can run 37s on the same lift. The JK has huge wheel wells and allows for larger tires with minimal lift. Folks think the JK is similar to pickups or older jeeps that require a lot of lift to clear larger tires but this isn't true.

It would be beneficial if you posted what size tire you want to run and what type of wheeling you want to do. I see you're in Edmonton so you'll probably be running deep muddy trails so belly clearance would be beneficial.

The steering correction kit and draglink flip do require at least a 3" bumpstop upfront to keep the draglink from contacting the frame. You might not lose up travel by using the required bumpstops because your shocks might be your limiting factor for up-travel. There are a lot of things to consider. With the synergy kit, it requires 3" bumpstops with 35s and stock flares or 4" with 37s and stock flares. I run 37s, trimmed flares, 3" bumpstops up front with maybe 1/8" of shock shaft left.

Good luck with the build!

You're ahead of the curve. There's no manual that says "read the stickies or you'll get blasted about asking for lift advice." And nobody ever explained to me what the hell a sticky was. But, read the stickies or you'll get blasted about asking for lift advice. Among other things.

The amount of bumpstop you use will depend on the overall build, it's not a one-size-fits-all kinda thing. If you are that concerned with uptravel, drive it with the lift and no flip and see if you even want to add the flip. You might be fine. If you decide that you do want the flip, and want to go with less bumpstop (while still keeping enough to prevent the shocks from bottoming), read a few threads on notching the frame.

Yep I'm a mud guy and I have a bit of a personal vendetta against a little hole we call the "The Jeep Eater" here's my last attempt, http://youtu.be/u_93uBSHT4Y if you look close you can see the water trimmed my fenders and grill right off for me!! I have two friends that have both hydro locked engines in it. Mostly looking for good belly clearance and planing to run 37" tires. When the 3.8 craps the bed it's the dream to make it a coal roller on 40s and with the amount of oil I burn it shouldn't take long lol!
So far I'm planning a Full Traction CRC (oh God I listened to GJeep!!), Synergy steering correction kit, Synergy high clearance front and lower adjustable control arms, Synergy adjustable upper control arms, Terraflex quick discos, Terraflex steering stabilizer relocation bracket, and Synergy lower shock mounts for front and rear. Still deciding springs and struts and whatever other components I'm missing to make a complete lift. Probably order one thing a month as budget allows just couldn't find a kit that had everything I was looking for in one place lol

Thanks for the tips Joe and Cutman! Looking forward to showing off someday!

Thanks nthinuf that's a good idea and gives me a better idea of what to install first since I'm buying the lift piece by piece. Back to search frame notching! I better put some sunscreen on I'm gonna get a face tan from my screen!

With 4 inches of lift, you'll have more than enough up travel with 3 inch bump stop.
