Default Newbie wanting to get my JK lifted!

2013 JK 4 door.

I am looking into getting my Jeep off the ground a little bit and get some more aggressive tires on it. I have read a lot of information regarding different types of lifts. I don't require a heavy duty off road machine. I really want the looks mainly. I use the 4wd sparingly, mostly only in snowy conditions (rare) and if I need to cut through a field or something like that.

My local shop wanted to charge me $1350 installed for the Rough Country 3.25 lift. I felt like that was a huge rip off so I started investigating online. I found the kit for $349 or so at some websites. I am very comfortable installing on my own as I have a mechanical back ground. My only hang ups are the negatives other people have told me. I have heard that the boots on my drive shafts will tear and I will possibly need to replace the entire shaft if I want to do the lift properly. I have also heard that this particular kit will eventually sag and I will have to purchase replacement parts. Is it better to do a spacer leveling such as the terraflex kit? They state I am able to run 34" tires with that kit and that is the minimum size I would like to put on. Or, should I just get a better lift kit such as the Pro Comp? I'm not made of money and I understand that quality will be more beneficial in the long run.

If anyone can give me some good advice I would really appreciate it. I want to get my Jeep looking right.

Rough country, pro comp, zone, BDS, Rubicon express all sell lifts cheap because they leave out important parts that are really needed for a proper suspension upgrade at the height you are looking at. These parts tend to cost 3-5 times what the initial lift cost. They suck you in with the cheap price and get you with all the extras you need. You are better off to learn what you will need and look for a kit that meets those needs or buy individual components. In reality before you are done a lift that is as big as you are looking at will cost you thousands in the end if you want a safe jeep that performs well on the street.

For what you described what you are looking for a simple 2" budget boost will be both cost effective and will give you the height to run 35" tires with proper back spaced wheels.

There are things called "stickies" at the top of the modified section I would encourage you to read to educate yourself about your jeep.

Good luck

Thank you for your help. I have posted elsewhere and was met with condescension which was unnecessary. I will look into this.
