Nevermind.

 

When you say stripped I hope you mean the head and not the threads for your sake. You could try easy outs. You drill a hole into the bolt. The easy out is reverse threaded so you turn it counter clockwise into the hole you drilled. Once it bites it backs the bolt out.

And remember, torque wrenches are your friend.

It leaked because your RTV seal wasn't likely any good. For the bolts you just have to snug them or torque them to 25 ft lbs.

The bolts are just there to keep the cover in place. The RTV is what prevents the leaks.

 

Well, assuming you broke the bolts, just drain the diff, pull the guard and cover, and you should have plenty of bolt sticking out to use a vice grip.

If you stripped the hole, time to call in a professional. You're dealing with cast steel and I do not believe there is enough meat to drill the hole out and put a helicoil in.

As others have said, the seal was the issue. Use RTV correctly or get the lube lockers if you can't. Either way, torque to 25 ft lbs. And, get a torque wrench or you'll be breaking and stripping a lot more bolts in your future.

 

Thanks for the responses I do think it is the seal now that it was mentioned I noticed it was poking out and warped in places but didn't know enough to think it would be a problem.

One bolt that broke off I was able to screw out and it left about 1/4 of the bolt inside. I didn't take the other bolt out so I don't know where that broke but probably the same place.

It sounds like an easy enough job but I'll leave this to the professionals.

 

Looks like something jiffy lube could handle.

 

I don't trust Jiffy lube to change my oil none the less something like this. Any REAL mechanics shop should be able to help you out.
