teraflex tire carrier question

Just got this bad boy in yesterday.
My question is I thought this was aluminum? It was much heavier than I expected...almost felt like steel.
Anyone else caught off guard by the weight?

I didnt know what to expect for weight. It was heavy, but its awesome. The tailgate is so solid now even with a 35" tire.

X2. With a 35 on the back it is " just there". No rattle, no movement, like it was just there. Perfect

It is aluminum, just a LOT of it haha. Steel at that volume would weigh as much as an anvil

Did you get the whole set up or just the adjustable tire carrier? The hinge plate is cast aluminum. I am pretty sure my adjustable carrier part is steel.

Got the whole setup. The hinge plate is just much heavier than I expected even for solid aluminum.
I can see why everyone says this thing is so strong
