Question JKU Rubicon Coils/Shocks on 2-Door Sport

Hey all,

I've looked a bit in the forums but haven't seen anything on this topic.

I've read that putting the coils and shocks from a 4-Door Rubicon on a 2-Door will give approximately 2" of lift. Seems to good to be true, but I know the spring rate on the JKU is higher so it may be feasible.

Has anyone done this?
Is it as simple as bolting them on or are there other parts/considerations?

I'm looking to run 285/17s on my stock Moab wheels and I can get the take-offs from a JKU Rubicon for $125 and install myself.

Any input is greatly appreciated.

If the coils last two numbers are 19 for front and 60 for rear you might get 2". But if the ones you have already are close to those numbers like 17 or 18 for front and 57-59 for rear it's not worth your time. All jeep stock coils are the same for 2dr and 4dr just the coil rate is different the higher the last 2 digits the stiffer( in my case I went from 14 to 19 and 54 to 60) and a bit longer. I ended up getting my jk to sit with about an 1" lift but I have smitty xrc front and rears with a winch. If your running light you should be able to fit 33(285) on stock whatever you have

Thank you so much for the quick response! I'm a newbie to the coil springs, all my past jeeps had leaves. May just go with the coil spacer lift then. She's a daily driver with an occasional off-road adventure and the extra couple inches would also help in the flood prone area I live in.

kfast24 hit the nail on the head as far as the numbers are concerned. I went from about a 14 up front to an 18. The rear I went from 54 (can't remember exact rating) to a 60. I gained almost two inches. And I also added the takeoff shocks.

Look at your current numbers. Should be on a sticker attached to the coil. If it's a significant increase, go for it. And nothing else is needed. Straight up replacement for both shock and coil.

Check your brake lines when you flex, but you should be fine.

I went from 14/56 to 17/58 and now my JK sits level which is awesome. I did gain some lift but not 2". I also put Rubicon shocks which made the ride a bit stiffer but I like it much better.

I went from 14/56 up to 18/60's. My front has a full width aftermarket steel bumper and a winch with steel cable, and the new springs brought me back up to stock height. In the back with no additional weight, I gained about 1.25 inches.

Happy Jeeping.

It is the same concerns whether you get extra height from spacers or extra height from new coils. The brakelines will be stretched a bit tighter. The swaybars will be angled down a bit. The bumpstops may be a bit too short. The shocks may be a bit too short (for those who don't replace them also). Both axles will shift a bit to one side. The driveshafts will be running at steeper angles. The trackbar and draglink will be at steeper angles. Whatever else I forgot.

At 2", most of it shouldn't be a big deal. But it is worth a few minutes of research so you know what to expect and can start forming your own opinions...

Thank you all! I was curious on why the Mopar 2" lift included a new drive shaft. Now I know why.
