Default Oil pressure sender

I installed an oil pressure gauge several months ago using the glowshift sandwich adapter which worked out great....almost. After a week or two, I noticed that the sender had a slight bend to it. Not thinking too much about it, I kept driving and had one offroad excursion. After that trip, I noticed that not only was the bend much worse, but the sender had a big dent in it! The gauge was no longer working properly at this point and I had a slight leak. Obviously something is making contact with it and the only thing that could possibly do it is the upper control arm/mount on that side (passenger). I haven't disconnected offroad since the sender was installed so I though maybe some offroad "debris" may have caused it since on that one trip one of the trails was grown up and we were running over and through lots of vegetation.

So, I replaced the sender...located in the same place and decided not to disconnect and keep an eye on it. Guess what? Another sight bend and a very small dent at this point! I've only been ONroad and find it hard to believe the control arm or mount would contact it. Couldn't duplicate it in the driveway by jacking it up on that side or driving it up my ramp. Anyone run into this?? I'm thinking I'm going to have to clock this thing pointed straight down and extend my wiring a little since I have no slack. I've included a pic of when it was first installed.

My install. Similar orientation, but maybe my sender is a tad shorter? VDO sender and gauge. Tens of thousands of miles, including much off-road, with nary a problem.

Thanks Mark, that may be the problem. My "dent" is on the outermost part of the sender near the electrical connection. I'd like to try a different sender but wonder if other brands will work with the SunPro gauge I have? In order to get a new sender I bought a whole new gauge as I wasn't able to find just the SunPro sender. Luckily they're cheap enough to do that. I'd still like to go with a shorter. Obviously can't keep buying whole gauge kits!

I'd be surprised it if would provide accurate readings. VDO does sell the parts separately. Not familiar with the SunPro gauge, but I chose the VDO because they have one that matches the OEM gauges in my non-Rubi (black bezel) ...

Hi Mark

Thanks for the post. I'm looking at this mod too and had to ask you what oil filter are you using? It looks much bigger then the stock Mopar ones I use. Like the fact it has more filter surface, and I'd really like some options on better anti drain back valve performance.

Do soon for another oil change will give this a try.

Thanks
