So I am new to this and was wondering about a lift kit the one I was looking was a rough country 4" for $500 vs 4" that was $1200? And I was also wondering what tires and wheels would be a good set up?

4" is going to be too high for anything you want to run on a daily driver. How do I know? I did the same thing, huge cheap lift with crappy springs and even crappier shocks. No track bar correction, no caster correction, and no driveline correction.

Long story short, I spent 800 to start and 3000 to repair all that was ruined.

Your call bud, if I had a chance to do it all over I would have ran a 285 with spacers while saving 3-4000 for a true lift kit with everything included. New steering, drive lines, and all necessary components for optimum ride quality.

Head over to the modified forum, there are hundreds of these types of threads to look through. All depends on what you want to do with your jeep, how much you want to spend, and what you are willing to sacrifice for a budget.

Check out the thread titled "My thoughts on lift" started by TheDirtman. A lot of good info and discussion.

I had Old Man Emu on my first Jeep..

It rode great on the road and was fine for moderate wheeling offroad.....I just played in the woods and snow with that setup never really tried any hardcore crawling wiith it...

Here is my 1st Jeep with the OME on 35's so you can get an idea what it would look like....I was loaded down heavy with the armor..

My 2nd Jeep I'm looking at EVO and Rock Krawler and a little bigger lift..

Look at the AEV Dualsport 2.5 lift kit. Really nice ride! On and off road. Goodyear Duratrac tires ride nice on road and are capable off road.

That said... Do your research. A lot of factors to consider before you proceed with a lift... Examples... you might need to re-gear (based on larger tire size), understanding potential impacts of lift to the vehicle driveline, will you need new wheels to accommodate backspacing needed for bigger tires, etc. Not saying not to do it, but go in eyes wide open. Research pays dividends down the road.
