Zach's Build Thread
Hey guys, just figured I'd start documenting what I've done to my Jeep, and hopefully have something to contribute to this awesome community. First, a quick intro...My name is Zach, I purchased my JK last April (2015) and have loved every second of it. Being totally honest, 3-4 years ago, I loved Jeeps but told myself I'd never buy one. I felt for the price, I could get a nice truck which I would've preferred. That all changed though, in late 2014. My girlfriends dad got a 2015 JKUR and I made the mistake of taking him up on an offer to drive the thing. Needless to say I loved it. Unfortunately, he passed away in March of 2015, and, amongst other things, he left his Jeep behind. He had only had it for a few months but I had the opportunity to take over his payments on it. I would've loved to, but, being 19 at the time and saving for a house, I couldn't bring myself to do it. I have no business carrying a $450-500 car payment. With that said, it was hard to let it go. Not only was there sentimental value, but it was a helluva deal considering the Jeep, with only 7k miles on it. Anyway, thats when the real search for a Jeep started. I wasn't sure what I wanted in terms of 2 dr or 4 dr. I was about to pull the trigger on a 4dr Willys in Hydro Blue when I happened to check out just ONE more dealership. The salesman asked me if I'd consider used, because he just got a nice one in on trade, and figured what the hell, I'll take a look at it. The Jeep hadn't even been finished getting cleaned from the last owner when I looked at it; the seats were still wet from being shampood. I fell in love, I would've preferred a 4 dr just for storage purposes and trunk space, but the way this Jeep was already setup and the price made it impossible to setup. It had a 3.5" lift, 35" Toyos, exhaust, intake, Trektop, and a few other interior goods. I lucked out on it, everything checked out. It drove like a dream and was clean as could be.
Now onto what I've done to it since...in as close to chronological order as possible.
Stubby stock front bumper
Trimmed flares
Barricade roof rack
Body Armor rear bumper
Smittybilt M1 grill
iPad dash
10" kicker sub in a truck box
Some LED cubes that came off a buddies truck
That all lasted me for a while, but have been doing some more work on it recently.
In 2016, so far, I've added...
Barricade Extreme HD front bumper
Amber Rigid Duallys in fog lights
Custom HID projector headlights
Ace Engineering Gatekeeper with hi-lift and LED cube
Quik-fist shovel mounts on roof rack
Read (synthetic) leather seat covers-just the front for now
Recon LED front turn signals
Smittybilt Limbrisers
Pressurized water with custom tank
50" LED Lightbar on windshield
Dash Cam (mainly for trails)
Jammock
I'm sure I'm missing a few things but I'll add them as I think of them. Will be uploading lots of pictures to, but will start with what I have on my computer already.
This is how it was for a while, with OEM stubby front bumper and trimmed flares...

Here's a pic from Jeeptoberfest.

Here's a pic kind of showing the iPad dash. Will have more details on this to come, but I've got easily 100+ hours in the thing. Started with making a mold of the dash section to keep the storage compartment on the dash. I wanted something easily removable with little to no modifications to the OEM dash. It attaches with two bolts. One using the factory screw hole in the storage section. The other was a screw molded into the dash panel that threads through a small hole, right above where the window controls would be. It is composed of easily 20-30 custom fiberglass panels with tons of body work. I then finished everything off and sent it to a body shop for paint.

Below is the day I brought it home...kinda miss it like that haha.

First time with the doors off...

This is a pic of the only day it was on the lot. It was "sold" before it hit the lot but I hadn't actually signed papers yet, just put a down payment. The sold sticker was in the window before it was parked out front

To date, the favorite thing I've done thus far would probably be the pressurized water. I essentially followed the steps of the guys who use the factory rear bumper as a water tank, but I don't have the factory bumper on anymore, so I made a few tweaks to it. More details and pictures to come!
