I'm thinking of getting some spare gas for an upcoming trip. I like the RotoPax because I would get the locking system with it. I have the LOD rear linked gen 3. There appears to be two options. 1. Over/under on drivers side and passenger side. Looks like you can maybe get 4 - 8 gallons total. 2. Side by side. Looks like 4-8 gallons total. Any advice on this? Anyone with any pictures? I'm leaning towards #2 since I think because it's a linked bumper that i can only put the mount on the passengers side? Thanks in advance for the input.

Default RotoPaX

You can't go wrong with RotoPaX cans. I'v had mine for 3 years and they are a great safety net to have on trips. I would just try to google it and see some pictures on there. I also think LOD has some pics on their site as well.

The LOD website doesn't really have the best pictures. I might be a bit too specific to get replies on this but I figured I would ask anyway.

Do used RotoPax come up for sale often? I really only need them like once a year and with the mounts and cans it ends up being like $350.

I'm tempted to just buy a 4 gallon can and mount it myself with tie straps somewhere on the bumper for like $30.

I'm with you, they look great, but the cost is so high. I can pull out the welder and mount a jerry can on the back for a quarter of the cost. The only trail I ever need extra fuel is the Dusy Ershim. I usually do that every other year.

For $350 I'd rather do OBO but there is basically the same problem there too. You can drop $400 on an under hood kit and then I see people reporting zero issues using a cig lighter Walmart special. I usually always go for quality but if I did that for everything i need it's going to be about $3k for me to make it all just as I want it. I'm sure many other people would spend much more.

I'll take any pictures of RotoPax and a Rear LOD bumper....anyone, anything, thanks.

How much extra fuel? Plan on doing it this year.

5 gallons per vehicle will get you through. I always take 10, but one of my cans ended up in my buddys cj both times. I think I can make it on a tank, I just prefer not to risk it. A guy in a jk ran out of fuel in whitebark vista last time I went. He entered from courtwright. We were heading in when we came across him fueling up. Pm me if you have any questions about the trail or need trailer parking, etc.

What's the general rule for gas? 3 gallons? 4?

I feel like 4 gallons is good. It's just as much trouble to mount a 4 gallon rotopax as a 2 gallon, so why not carry 4? At least that was my logic in choosing a 4 gallon.

If you needed 2 more gallons than the 2 you brought, you would be walking at least 20 miles to get it. That's a long walk, lol
