Default Blown U-Joint in MOAB on Hamburger Hill. Question about replacement.

My Jeep has a Rubicon Dana 44 on the front with stock shafts and Teraflex Heavy Duty Ball Joints. I am looking at replacement shafts and found that Dana Spicer makes a Performance Front Axle Shaft that replaces the 1310 joints with 1350's.

The question is, will this shaft fit with the ball joints that I have or will there be interference? I have sent a request to TF, but no reply yet.

I have a factory shaft in the stockpile of parts if you are doing the Rubicon next you can stop by and throw it in.

I really appreciate the offer, but I am already back in VA. I did have a blast out there and I will be back soon. I hope to see you there next time.

I am mulling over upgrading the 44 to better components vs. just getting a UD60. If I can find the $, then the 60 is it, if not, the RCV's that Jonathan is recommending is a good lower cost solution.

I was surprised by the difference in traction on the rocks in MOAB vs what we have back here in the east. Back here everything is covered in dirt and mud so it's a lot more slick. If that ledge where here I may not have broken the u-joint, but who knows.

Here is the offending obstacle on Hamburger Hill. (next time you are mine)

I have a set of those ball joints. I'm interested what TF will say about it. Let us know

They said that they MAY interfere and pointed me to the tech note to grind down the U-Joint if it does. Oh well. I think I am just going to put a set of new joints in it for the time being. Axles that is, not ball joints.

Don't you love that "may"? In other words, they really don't know and aren't willing to find out! Not sure I would be willing to grind on a ujoint!

2012 was the cut-off point for when the axle shafts got upgraded on the front d44s. If you upgrade to the larger axle shafts and are running the TF ball joints, chances are you will have to grind.

I'd think you would certainly have to grind down the yokes a little bit. I've got a friend that just put the TF bj's in his 15 rubi (stock shafts, but larger than the 10 shafts as mentioned above) and he had to address the yokes. He said it was "a bit" of grinding but I think that's all relative.
