51,000 miles and I need a new transmission
A couple of weeks ago I was driving in the mountains and noticed sometimes when going uphill the RPM's would get really high but the transmission wouldn't shift into the next gear unless I backed off the gas pedal. I drove her around town and on the freeway for the last week and everything was smooth but I was sure my imagination wasn't playing tricks on me. My warranty expires on December 31 so once again I took her uphill and the same thing happened again. I scheduled and appointment at the dealer and took her in this morning after explaining to the service manager that the mechanic needed to go uphill. Well he did and I got a call that my 2012 needs a new transmission. 51,000 lousy miles and she needs a transmission?????? WTH? Anyone else have something like this happen to their JK? And does anyone know the type of warranty a new transmission will have?
I went back to the dealership to get some personal items from my Jeep and was able to talk to the mechanic as well. Yep, there's no doubt about it. Transmission is a goner and will be covered by the warranty but it's still a giant PIA to be without it for a week or more.
nice thing about a transmission replacement it is pretty much plug and play. Other than being without a rig for a week (hopefully they will give you a loaner) I would be happy to get a new tranny as long as it is a new tranny and they are not just rebuilding yours.

I agree. However, I've had a Mercury mountaineer trans go bad at 33,000 miles. They rebuilt it. Now has about 200,000 and still going strong with no further maintenance. Even towed a 3500 pound trailer a bunch of times.
