Default 34s vs 35s

Have a 2015 rubicon unlimited w/ 3.73 and an aev 2.5 lift. Just about to pull the trigger on new tires to go on my rugged ridge shed 17" wheels. It's mostly a dAily driver but a couple times a year we will go off-road.

I am leaning toward 285/75r17's nitto ridge grapplers.

In other posts it looks like the 2.5 is just not enough for 35's to have good clearance under flex. Is that a correct assessment?

Would flat fenders be the cure to running35's ow will 34's be good enough?

going from a 31" tire to a 35" tire only requires 2" of lift to compare to factory clearances. Flat fenders will allow you to run with just a front leveling spacer.

Bear in mind that none of the tires will measure up so if you'd like to see 34" of rubber then you need to go larger.

The offset of your wheels can be the determining factor in "is there enough room to articulate the axle without contacting the flares". More tire hanging out means you're likely to contact the edge of the flare where it starts you droop. Been there, done that, chopped the flares.

It cones down to personal preference. 33's (34's) are a great daily and pretty capable. 35's have the aesthetic appeal albeit at the cost of gas mileage and accelerated parts wear.

That is the same set up I have been eyeing to do on my 2014 JKU Rubicon with wheel spacers to run the stock wheels with the same gearing

You will get a very tiny bit of rubbing on the inside of the stock fenders with AEV 2.5", 35's, and lower backspaced wheels and spacers. At least I did but not enough to cry over. At full flex, my tires were barely rubbing. I am only running Genright aluminum in the rear though but do have a heavy PS steel bumper/winch/hi-lift jack on front.

If you're running factory offset wheels and say 1.5" spacers, the wheels will still be inside the wells at full flex to not be an issue.

Default pulling my Nittos off....

Just a heads up if this helps?

I also have an AEV 2.5" lift on a 2-door (2016)...

I put on 285/75/17 Nitto Ridge Grapplers w/AEV Pintler wheels (+10 offset). After a few months and various experiences, I decided last night to pull them off. I feel this width makes my Jeep feel a little "over-tire'd"... however, the height is fine. I also have the 3.75 gears and power is fine, but think 285/75R17 is just a touch to wide in regard to finding optimum on-road handling. I also find the Nittos a little greasy in the rain (I have about 3k miles on them). From a looks point of view, I think 287/75 are a little wide and give me a bit of a "ballon tire" look.

I am going back to running BFG KO2's but in 34x10.5R17... its -.72" less in width. Good luck in your search and sorry I'm a little off topic for ya. If I had the AEV 3.5" lift, I/d run 35"s no prob... just not with the 2.5" lift.

I think I will go with the 285/75r17's . I have a heavy scr gen 2 bumper abs a winch on front which may make 35's more Lille to rub

Nothing wrong with 34's. It was the first set of tires I upgraded to before going to 35's then 37's. I sold them and the wheels though after getting the lift.

34's on 18's on stock carrier...

34's or 285/75r17's with 2-2.5" of lift & good shocks are the Goldilocks of setups for daily driving with some weekend fun. Ive been running Toyo AT II XT's in this size since 11/14, and I look to get about 50k miles out of them. I've looked hard @ 315's and 35's but keep coming back to lighter is better. With the new mix of AT/MT hybrids, I'm sticking with 34's and adding a synthetic line winch.
