Where do you run your tire pressure in the rocks, and what compressor do you carry?

Default Where do you run your tire pressure in the rocks, and what compressor do you carry?

33" BFG Mud terrains, no bead locks. I need to know where I need to run my tire pressure for rocky CO trails. Also what is a good compressor to carry to air back up? Is there one available that I can plug into my AC outlet? Thanks!

Recommend staying above 14 pounds without beadlocks, but that depends on the obstacles.

Depending on what trail, I'll go to 10 pounds, there are a ton of trails in CO without large obstacles. Running this way on uneven trails is very nice.

If you're thinking about spring creek or Blanca peak keep it in between 15-20. Two highly recommended trails.

Also compressors,

I've used the battery terminal units (12v), and the onboard systems. Truthfully like the viair portable units overall. Larger compressor, removable and usable in multiple vehicles, less than the arb.

The arb is a highly quality unit, no question. Just a bit more expensive.

When I started out, I tried using a portable Viair that just hooked to a battery. It just didn't have a duty cycle that could keep up filling 4 35s without taking forever. I was building mine to be as self sufficient as possible. My dad lives in Colorado and when I'd visit I'd run in to this very issue....vs. wheelin at parks where you weren't left in the middle of nowhere wondering how you were gonna air back up. LOL. It was hard to drop the coin, but I bought the dual arb compressor, mounted under my passenger seat, and never looked back. I love it. Still hate the thought of spending so much on something just to air back up, but it's peace of mind.....and it fills up my 37s pretty fast. I only wish it could run some air tools.

How much is the arb and does it hook up to your battery or the ac outlet?

We plan on starting out on the Crested Butte area trails to warm up then head down to Ouray and do black bear pass and Imogene, maybe a couple more.

Don't get sticker shocked -

5% off with jkforum code. If you call em you might be able to get it a little cheaper. Think I paid $465 a few years back. It's hardwired in to the battery and triggered with a switch they provide. You'd think for that price you'd get a nice ARB hose and hardware with it.....but you'd be wrong!

The old Viair would get through 2....maybe 3 of my 35" tires back in the day before dying. I'd then have to set 15 mins or so prior to being able to finish that last one. The ARB will take my 37s from 11 to 27 pretty fast. Not CO2 fast, but doesn't take long. If it's not something you see yourself getting a ton of use out of in the future, since you're on 33s, and since you probably don't REALLY have to go that low for those areas, a Viair might be a more cost effective route.

Also though, you're most likely going to be dropping the pressure a bit more for comfort factor than you're crawlin' through some major obstacle.

Complete tire size and wheel size is going to be the best way to get an accurate answer. I run 16psi but that doesn't help without knowing that I'm on stock wheels and 35x12.5" tires with 17" wheels.

There's more at play than just a height and brand of tire.

I like that arb, nice that you can mount it under the passenger seat. There is a rock crawling area near me at Langley, OK below Grand Lake that I go to occasionally and it would be nice to air down there.
