Default How to fix 33" tire from rubbing w/o using spacers?

I changed my tires to 285/70R/17 BFG ATs and kept the stock 17x7.5 rims and as expected the tires rub at full turn (even w/ the air dam removed)...I won't be doing any major off roading and my Jeep is primarily used as my daily driver....how can i fix this w/o using wheel spacers and w/o changing rims (I do like the stock set)? Is it even possible? Anyone know if a 3/4" spacer up front or a 2" suspension lift will fix the problem? A definitive answer is much appreciated!

Thanks!
Myla

Post some pics, I am looking to make that upgrade except with the stock 16" rim.

You can adjust the steering stops and limit how far your wheels will turn, but this will decrease your turning radius. The steering stop is a bolt with a nut welded onto it that attaches to the steering knuckle. Start by removing the bolt and adding a lock-washer under the nut and re-installing. This will probably be enough.

I have the same size setup as you. I did a quick visual on my 33's and can't see where they're rubbing. They're not hitting the air dam, but they're certainly rubbing on something at full turn.

Like you, I'm not a fan of wheel spacers and don't want to invest in new wheels. I'm curious to hear whether a 2" lift will work to correct the rubbing or if I'd need to go with a 2.5" down the road.

A lift is not going to correct the rubbing when turned at full lock. The only way to do this is to set the tire out farther (spacers, narrower tire, smaller tire diameter, or different wheels) or adjust the steering stops. A lift will prevent the tires from contacting the upper inner fenders, which does not seem to be your problem.

Yup, you have to change the offset of the wheels, either by buying new ones like Monocog did or spacers or the steering stop deal...

But all tires are not created equal... tires sizes are not always what they seem... so the width is only one problem on the wheel end.

The last 33" tires I had were 33x12.50R15 and only measured (32.52 dia)(section width (12.51) compared to the stock BFG MTR 255/75R17 's that measure (32.06 dia) but has less (section width 10.03). All brand and sizes may differ so you want to get an honest diameter by doing the math. A tire calculater will help you there. You really have to decide what tread width you want for a footprint.

So forget about 32's and 33's and raise it 2.5 inches and get some 35's which will probably measure 34.6

sorry didn't mean to spend YOUR money

Thanks Renegade. I just went ahead and ordered the Spidertrax spacers for now. When I have enough $$, I'll just get new rims.
