Right now, the only thing holding me back from getting 35s instead of 33s is gas milage. I do a lot of highway driving and a sorta lot of off road. I'd like 35s, of course, but I feel like I'm gonna pay the price for it.

What kind of gas milage are ya'll getting with 33s and 35s?

Also, has anyone tried the Wrangler SilentArmors? Or know anyone who has?

 

I'm getting around 14-15 with 33" pro comp mud terrains. What I don't much care for is how they moved the power band of the motor, just like changing rear end gears. I find the jeep down shifting when it didn't used to. Oh well, still looks killer!!

getting 14-16 w/ 35's, auto and 4:10's. The mileage was a big concern for me as mostly highway as well. I personally would not put anything smaller than a 34" on with the 4 dr., I think it needs that much tire to look right.

 

I'd really like to see a real world result on this too. I'm looking at going from stock Rubicon wheels and tires to 15" alloy wheels with BFG A/T tires. I figure that the new wheels and tires will weigh less. The difference between 33" and 35" BFG A/T's is only a couple of lbs. Larger heavier tire = lower mileage. Another consideration though; With 4:10 gears, the following page http://www.fourwheelparts.com/gear_ratio.html
indicates that you'll get better mileage with 35's than 33's. Move to any M/T (much heavier) tire, and expect mileage to suffer. Yet another consideration. I believe that the new JK V6 likes to run at a higher than standard RPM. That should knock the chart data a bit.
Again, it would nice to have someone actually chart their before and after mileage. Maybe WayOfLife is charting it. I know he'll be moving from 32's to 35's.

 

I have a 4 door 6 speed manual and was getting 20 to 21 mpg consistently. Friday I got a 3 inch lift, saturday got 295 or 33 inch nitto terragrapplers. My mpg is going down. Right now its 18 to 19mpg. Hope that helps! This jeeps lady owned and driven .

 

Are you going by the readout on the instrument panel or doing the math when you fill up? The general consensus is that the mpg readout is a little optomistic. Mine used to show about 20-22 and actual math showed 17-18. Not a huge difference, but significant.

Now I have 34's and get about 16mpg. I have a 6 speed and 3.21 gears.

Your computer must be recalibrated for the new tires are your gas mileage will show a lower mpg. It will also reflect a slower speed on your speedometer.

 

33's and 16-18 mpg's

 

Yeah, unfortunately, the only way you will get true MPG is with a GPS measuring your distance, that is, if you have larger tires on your Jeep. Your Speedo is going to be off, so the readings are not acurrate. For comparison only, I was getting 18 - 19 on the electronic read out with my stock 32's and now am getting 15-16 on the read out with my 34's. My guess is that I lost 2 - 3 MPG, but I cannot tell you what I am truely getting. One of these days, I'll check it with my GPS, but I just haven't had the time.
