My 2011 JK Sahara is exhibiting some weird issues following a nearby lightning strike during a thunderstorm. The Jeep was parked near a palm tree that was likely killed in the event. Our house is having it's own issues as well as my wife's Subaru...all as a result of the lightning strike.

In the case of my Jeep, I now have the RED OIL CAN, AMBER ENGINE ICON, an intermittent ANTI SKID (Amber), and the Satellite Radio plays for 10 seconds, cuts out for 10 seconds, then plays for 10 seconds and cuts out. The AM/FM does not receive at all. The transmission appears to be stuck in 3rd gear, and the gear shift annuniciations show a "selected" box around P R N and D all at the same time.

The Jeep is totally stock (no mods) and very well maintained at the dealer. Before the storm the Jeep ran perfectly with no squawks at all.

Can anyone shed some light on what the issue might be? If its a matter of switching out a few fuses I'd like to try that before committing to what could be an expensive trip to the Jeep dealer.

Also, if there are any Jeep specialists in the Treasure Coast of Florida that might save me a few bucks I'd love to know (Stuart, Vero Beach, Palm Beach, Melbourne area).

It may have fried the computer in the jeep. Based on everything else you've said though, it seems like your insurance would cover it as it's a result of the storm.

You could try disconnecting the battery for a short while and then reconnecting it but if the computer is wonky then it'll need to be replaced. A flash 'probably' won't correct issues caused by an electric pulse.

 

Thanks for the input. It did fry the computer(s), both the TIPM and the PCM/TCM...$2,200 in repairs, but it was covered by insurance.
