Default dual top issue

I just bought my 2017 jk wrangler with the dual top. I have the hard top on, but they left the soft top hooked up and rolled up in the back. I want to take the soft top out so I have more cargo space, but the dealer said that they never remove it and that they would charge me for them to remove it. Is this common practice? Do I need to remove the hard top to get the soft top out? It seems strange that it would have to stay there. How do I unhook it and remove it? How difficult is it? Thank you everyone for your help.

Same thing here. Just got a 17JK and took it out myself.

1- remove hard top (see manual). You may need someone to help you lift it.

2- remove the 4 bolts holding the soft top frame to the roll bar. The bolts are located on the rear top corner of the roll bar; 2 on each side.

3- remove soft top assembly as one unit.

4- reinstall hard top.

Hope this helps.

If you plan on keeping the hard top and removing it occasionally (or often), some sort of hoist is well worth the money.....assuming you have a garage to use it in. I have my hard top off/on in a matter of 5 - 8 minutes total.

Thank you both very much. You were very helpful. With the help of my son-in-law, we took off the hard top and took out the soft top yesterday. Have a great week!
