what are you trading? what are you planning to do with it? I just got a 2018 Recon and love it but I only have put 2500 miles on it with no off-roading yet. so far so good. It is my 3rd rubicon and it is the nicest amenity wise simply because it has leather and nav and my other two did not. If you are planning on really building a rig to run 37's etc I would look at a sport because you could regear and add a hd front axle for less. If you want a really nice daily driver to do light off-roading or overlanding type stuff the recon is nice for sure. Without knowing what you want it for it is hard to give pros and cons.

Pros: 1.You can brag on the fact you have the most expensive model that has features you likely will never use to people that don't know anything about jeeps.
2. it will smell new.
Cons: 1. Less money in your pocket
2. People that know things about off roading and jeeps making fun of you for spending $50k on a super trail rig to drive around on the pavement.

So you're talking about trading in your '14 rubi for a '17 recon?

Sounds like you have Recon envy. Going from a 14 to a 17 gains you nothing in terms of performance. Same engine, transmission, transfer case, axle shafts, gears, lockers, driveshafts. You will get some new stickers, funny hood, useless steel bumpers, and a stronger front housing.

Is your current rubicon stock?

I had a 2014 jkur and traded that for a 2016 jkr and after less than a year missed my 4 door and traded the 2 door for an 18 recon 4 door. Dennis Dillion had it priced right ie they sell them pretty loaded(auto, hardtop,4.10, hd hinge, 430N, trailer tow etc) with an msrp of $50310 for $42520 OTD. this was not a special deal just what they sell them for. If you are a veteran they knock another $500 off. I disagree that the bumpers are useless. You can sell them all day long for a decent price ie $1000+ if you want some tougher ones. Front bumper is actually pretty nice when you convert it to a stubby. It has a nice real steel skid up front which is the same as the aev skid that sells for $300 and while you might not race koh with it for things that most of us do like Rubicon trail or dusy ershim it does fine. the funny hood is vented and it is easy to vent it even more if that is your thing and crazy as it seems I love how it looks from the driver's seat.

I am very happy with my '17 Recon. I have owned a '79 CJ5 and an '82 CJ7 that were mildly modded, minimal lifts,33's,skids ect.
The Recon so far , is every bit as capable as the CJ's. All the electronic stuff was a bit of a concern, but all is good so far. I plan on leaving it pretty much as is. The trails I run in the Sierra's don't require much more.
To me all the creature comforts were worth the extra $$. The heated leather and 9 speaker Alpine won't get you through the rocks, but really nice to and from work ! I think the power dome hood is sick as hell ! Good luck , sure you'll be happy whatever you decide.
