Default Detroit TrueTrac for Jk Rear Dana 44 w/ 4.10 Gears

I'm getting a lot of mixed signals from various suppliers, but what Detroit Locker product would i be looking at for a 2008 Dana 44 rear Axle with 4.10 gears?

Quadratec says a 913A589 will fit any ratio, but most every other site says they are only for 3.73 and down.

Anyone know what I should be looking for here?

Here's a link to Eaton's application guide: http://www.eaton.com/ecm/groups/publ.../ct_128302.pdf

Page 11 is for Jeeps. For 2007-2016 Wrangler JK NON-Rubicon it lists the 913A589 with a note about 3/8 bolts and fitting non-Rubicon JK's only (because the Rubi axle spline count is different). For the older Jeeps, the part number changes depending on the ratio.

Thanks! I ran across that PDF so i feel good about everything but the 3/8 bolts. The ring kits i was looking at (Alloy USA 360002 or Motive Gear 683-MGK-100) seems to be 7/16, 1/2 only. Anyone know what Rings might be compatible with that size diff?

That's kind of a red flag, something is odd here -- Thinking that the older dana 44's used smaller ring gear bolts (probably 3/8").

This seems more complicated than I'd expect. Surely someone has replaced thier rear axle internals with new gears and a truetrac locker. What did you do? Does that 3/8in ring gear bolt fit with any gears?

There were a lot of posts way back when talking about this. Something like the factory used two different bolt sizes - not based on year or model, just what parts they had laying around at that time. (like some early 2007's came with rear D35's, but most had D44's.) People who got the larger-sized factory bolts would need to drill out the holes on the truetracs. Those who got the thinner bolts would not. Haven't seen any posts on this in quite a while, so maybe they standardized at some point?

Anyway, IF you need to drill the holes ... just take it to a machine shop. Truetracs use a very hardened metal, there were many comments about trashing multiple bits trying to DIY it. Even about machine shops going through multiple bits

And yeah, JK d44 ring gears are larger diameter and 'thicker' than previous versions, which somehow correlates to using '3.73 and down' regardless of ratio.

nthinuf has it right.
All D44 rear JKs use the 3.73 and down carrier regardless of gear ratio used. Non Rubi's will use any standard 44 diff designed for 3.73 and down. Rubi diffs use a different bearing OD that fit a different size bearing journal. Rubi diff replacement requires a special diff but we're not talking about that here. The Truetrac you'll want to use on a non Rubi is 913A591. As nthinuf mentioned, the case is hardened- VERY hard. The Truetrac is drilled for 3/8" bolts. Early JKs had 7/16" bolts then later changed to 1/2". The Truetrac will need to be drilled and some machine shops even have trouble with it.

I ended up going with the Alloy USA 360002 and the Detroit Locker 913A589. The place i ordered from (JEGS) had an online rep i talked with and said those alloy rings should take the 3/8'' bolts. Ill post back here after the build and let you guys know how it goes!

Digger 5, where did you get that TrueTrac model number? every place i look at doesn't list that as a good fit for a non-rubi JK

In any case, the die is cast, so i guess we'll see how it turns out

That is the same part Number I am going with from my research when i put in 5.38 gears. But here is another curve ball. I was told that when i put a rubi dana 44 front end under my jeep I am supposed to use the same locker. Supposedly a rubi dana 44 front and a non rubi dana 44 rear us the same truetrac. I am trying to get some clarification on that one.
