TIPM crapped out
2017 wrangler sport 2dr 20K miles. So like the title says, I parked the jeep because the TIPM is bad. The engine cuts off without warning at any moment. It has happened while parked and idling, driving on the freeway, and just driving around town. No problem its still under warranty right? Wrong. The service manager at Bender jeep in clovis nm says that the part is backordered until who knows when. Oh and he doesn't have a loaner available. So here I am without my jeep and no ride whatsoever . You're telling me the dealer doesn't have anything? Not even a beat up used trade in their planning on junking? Has anyone else had trouble with the TIPM? How common is this problem?
That's odd that they can't do anything about your 2017, maybe it's time to escalate the case to Chrysler and see if they'll put you in another jeep. If you've got to have "your" Jeep then check around the internet, there are companies that rebuild the TIPM and can have it right back to you in a week or so.....cost is usually $300ish. Just another option.
In the past I had problems with my 2007 TIPM. What would happen is the wipers would turn on, the horn would beep, and the engine would die. It probably happened a half dozen times, usually in sets of two or three in a day, then go months without it happening again. Each time I'd pull out the TIPM, clean up all of the connections on the bottom of it, ensure the battery connection was perfect, check other battery connections, (terminals, grounds, etc), and it would go those months before it happened again. Last time it just died without the theatrics. I was literally crossing railroad tracks and barely made it to the other side. No train at the moment, but still ... ? Anyway, Jeep would not start. In the past it always started right up, but this time it would not start (just crank). I went to the back of the Jeep to get my tools and the horn beeped and the wipers wiped one time. Just for grins I tried to start one more time. And it started right up. And that was the last time it ever happened. That was probably 50,000 miles ago (currently have 237,000 miles on the Jeep). And it seems to be just fine now. And now that I've shared this, I hope I haven't jinxed myself.
So the dealer replaced the TIPM and the coolant temp sensor . All under warranty/ no charge. I picked up the vehicle after work, drove it almost all the way home, I made it to my neighbors driveway when it died again. Temp gauge was right in the middle when it happened and dropped to "C". It normally restarts after it cools off, but that will probably take hours . I'll take it back in the morning if it will start.
