I'd like to get some air flow through our jk with a hardtop ive insulated the roof panels which helps a bit keeping the heat from soak into into the interior some venting in the rear would probably help a lot. i thought of adding one of those plastic vents use don camper shells but dont really want to cut a hole in the top. maybe a latching mechanism extension that allows the rear window to be cracked open slightly it cant go far due to the spare being mounted there?

 

Why not just take the top off? What are you trying to achieve?

 

im trying to get some air flow through the vehicle. taking the top off in my area is a bad idea we have way to many thieving meth heads around here and you cant guard your vehicle 24/7. they will steal anything nailed down or not.
even the soft tops get the windows cut out to allow access pretty frequently.

 

Are you talking about just when the jeep is parked somewhere, and you want some air flow through it so it's not just baking? Why not just use one of those little fans you roll the window down a bit, put the fan on top of the window, then roll it back up to sandwich in place....then activate the fan?

 

Humm, I just think drilling and cutting holes in a hard top is a bad idea, can do what resharp001 said. Another way to get more airflow when driving would be just leave the back hatch open. I do it all the time trying to carry wood and metal back home. Roll down the windows and you have a nice place for air to come in then right back out. When you park just close the window and go about your day.

So did you already install the vent visors? They should let some of that hot air out.

 

I would consider painting the top surface of the hardtop a light color to reflect more of the suns rays. Most of the time nobody can see the very top of the hardtop anyway.
Out west they use aluminized roof paints to reduce the solar load on homes. An automotive paint supplier could let you know if there's anything more solar reflective than white paint to choose from. Eastwood sells aluminized paints that hold up on intake manifolds. Something to consider.

 

i was thinking of having it painted whit eon the top and spoke to a painter about it who just painted my miata he didnt show much enthusiasm for the idea. but i tink that may help alot just adding some interior insulation helped a lot but the double sided tape used to hold it up leave something to be desired. i got the stickiest type 3 m makes and it still didnt hold well. thanks
