Looking for long term reviews on RCV's in the front. Do they go 100K+ miles without rebuilding? They plenty strong, but how about wear? Any weird quirks or problems?

 

I just did my final axle swap and am now the owner of some nice RCVs with less than 10k miles on em. I sure can't add much value yet, heck, haven't even had them wheelin yet, but I am very interested to hear any reviews as well.

 

I had them for 35K behind a V8 and they performed well, very smooth in 4 low off road. There's always a little mess around the boots that I would wipe off every month or so. I always put 4 pumps of RCV grease in every 3K oil change.

 

Just curious, what so special about RCV's grease?

The axles come with it and that's what RCV specified to use. So I dedicated a needle tipped grease gun for it so it was easy to squirt I'm the dirk on the end of the axle. I don't know what's in the grease.

 

y, it is "synthetic moly CV grease, formulated exclusively for RCV ultimate CV's". I can't tell you what is super special about it, but I can infer from the txt that if you use something else in their shafts and you have a problem with em, customer service is probably gonna be a bit more of a hassle.

 

Friend has the RVCs and uses their expensive grease religiously. When I looked at it it just looked like garden variety black moly grease.

I think it's secret sauce!!!! Re sharp's got a point on warranty issues though.

 

I've never much bought into all these "specially formulated" greases, except for Rock Krawler using such a thin grease (previously...I see they've made changes now) due to the size of their grease channel. Previous owner sent along 2 brand new RCV cartridges though, so lucky me. has to be enough grease to last 3 lifetimes! If I didn't have it though I'd probably buy it due to the component's function and cost. Not sure what warranty I might have since I'm not the original purchaser, but I'd assume they'll stand behind their product if I ever have an issue.

 

I have now run my RCV's for 21 months and they have been flawless. Grease them regularly. Still on my initial tube of synthetic black moly grease from RCV but not paying their price for a replacement tube later. As long as you use an equivalent grease, RCV can't say anything.
