Uh,,, $35k for a 2017 JKU Rubi Recon, $33k new JL
I’ve been looking at the 2016-2017 Recon, because I like the rubi add-ons and recons hood/diff covers/accents. However, is it worth paying the same price as a brand new JLU sport?
I have kicked the idea around of supercharging a rubi, 2-3” lift and 35s. With gears.
I know very little about the new 2.0 engine. And I really do not like the look of the top of the new Jeep. It seems too similar to the old land rovers.
also, the rear axle is the m200 in the new JL, which I know little about as well.
I would love to find a recon for $30k with less than 30k miles. Anyone know if this is possible?
input on the new Jeep vs the 16-17?
i think the recon was first introduced in 16 anyway.
thanks

recons came out in 2017. I know where there is a really nice 2018 4 door with 2" mopar lift and loaded from the factory with additional quality upgrades but a lot more then $30K. You might find a 2 door for that price range.
well, now I found this. I would think they would take $28500 cash. Just missing power windows. But it’s new. Under warranty and around $4-5k less than a used recon.
Wth?
The loaded '18 is jadmt's 2018 Recon
he's been through quite a few jeeps in a short number of years so while his price may be high, he'd be the one to know that it'll sell for every bit of what he's asking.

Plus column on the Rubicon is the beefier D44 axles with lockers and the 4:1 transfer case already installed. This would be a great setup for 35's and would do most all of what the normal Jeep owner would want to do.
The new JL's are nice, but the overwhelming amount of electronics on them can be problematic depending how carried away you want to get.Talking with several shops who specialize in building extreme level Jeeps, they've had some issues when swapping axles and such. The Sport transfer case isn't an issue in the newer ones as the 8 speed transmission makes up for the higher gear ratio as opposed to the Rubicon. The axles are the initial weak link when tire sizes go up. Chances are, again depending on your intended use, you could get by with the factory axles on 35's. I don't know that I'd put any money into upgrading them, or even putting lockers in them. I'd find a pair of takeoff Rubicon or step up to Currie or Dynatrac and get down the road.

That. Is the biggest reason I bought an 18 JK instead of a JL, every where I looked the salesmen were talking up all the electronic gadgets in the new Jeep, I didn't want all that, the jk has more than needed
