I’m in the process of regearing a front Dana 44 axle for my jk. I’m getting the following gear pattern. Can anyone provide some insight on to if this pattern is acceptable. If it is not does the pinion gear need to move closer or further away? By how much would you move it?
parts:
yukon 4.56 gears
arb rd157 locker

Alright after a couple more tries what does everyone think? I decreased the pinion depth shims .028” from the original post. Is this a better contact pattern? Backlash set at .006”

Not enough engagement or deep enough but you are getting it more centered on the tooth. Take a bit more shim out of the pinion and add shim to the ring side.
Okay. So you think that the pinion is still too deep? Does anyone know rough how thick the pinion shims should be? Right now I’m around.025” for the pinion shim thickness.
the housing is a Dana 44 hd with J8 tubes with Yukon gears.
does anyone know what the recommended distance is from the head of the pinion to the centerline of the carrier? I do have access to a pinion depth gauge.
