I just purchased a 2013 Sahara on 37’s. The wheels are absolutely too wide but it drives great on the road and has more pep than another all stock Sahara I test drove so it’s obviously been re-geared but I have no idea yet to what ratio.
This Jeep is a back up vehicle and will be used to tow behind our RV, off-roading will likely be limited to its muddy at the deer lease.
With that said, what other than gears is mandatory for running 37’s reliably?
If you're running stock axles I'd start saving money for replacements as they'll be the first thing to go. At a minimum, find some takeoff Rubicon 44's. Before all the experts show up and tell you how they wheeled for 20 years on a D30 with 42" tires with no issues, I'll say it can happen, but it's not if they're going to break, it's when, and it won't be in the parking lot at the grocery store near your house most likely. Your desire to offroad and to what extreme will be the driving force. When they did gears, did they add lockers or are they still open?
i would want to know if anything was done to the axles aside from regear....are you sure it is a stock 30 up front?
maybe they already gusseted and put in some chromoly shafts...
But, back to the original question...agreed with jordy...rubi takeoffs will be the cheapest, easiest route for 37s...get 'em gusseted while they are out from under the Jeep.
I spoke with the shop that I’m told did all the work to this Jeep and nothing was done to the axles, not even gears. Based on online gearing calculators I have 4.10’s and have decided I’m stepping down to 35-12.50’s.
