The metal cloak is a dual rate as the top portion does expand on its own. This allows for a longer coil length that won't drop out when using long travel shocks. It is true that you are only using a single rate most of the time. You can not get the length out of a progressive spring unless you were running a very low coil rate. Most companies will not tell you what the spring rate actually is but you will find most are in the +-230lb range. IF you use the JKS coils with the Rocksport or OME shocks that are long travel you risk the coil coming unseated under full droop. The metal cloak coils and shocks ride very nice and I would keep run the pair without hesitation. I have have done several installs of Metal Cloak and my customers have been very satisfied with the ride.

First time a tire shop puts it on a lift it will go full droop, and if the springs can unseat, they will. In the backcountry, similar can happen, just having the tires fall into deep ruts can do it.

If your shocks are not overly long you will not have an issue with unseating a coil. If you are worried at all just use coil retainers.

Using retainers that stretch the coils are not good on them.

i agree, but all the ones i have seen retain at the bottom and let the top move freely. Again shock length has a lot to do with it.
