Humming/Groan Noise in low speed
Hey everyone!
so I have a 2015 Wrangler JK i recently bought. It has a Mopar 2.5” lift, 35” tires. Recently re-geared to 4.56. Automatic trans.
I have noticed that on acceleration at low speed there is a loud humming/groan type noise. I initially thought it was the dual exhaust but it is only at low speeds and after shifting first gear. its faint at low speed and then it shifts and settles into 2nd and that’s when it starts the deep hum noise. If I take my foot off the gas it goes away immediately. it’s like a very deep humming/groaning sound. In higher gears it isn’t there either. I took the doors off yesterday and that’s when I noticed how loud it was. Its such a weird humming that it makes your ears feel like when you only have the rear windows down on a highway. Like that pressurized feel. It’s so weird. Does anyone have any idea what this might be?
also, when revving the engine in park the sound is not there, only when actually driving.
the previous owner ran 35” tires on stock gears for 5 years. So I’m wondering if this is the transmission or something. I have 2 months left on powertrain warranty so thinking about bringing to dealer. Let me know what you think!

That was my first guess. If you go out to Randy's Ring & Pinion (looks like they changed the name to Randy's Worldwide ?) and click the Tech Resources link, they have a nice FAQ that goes over some install issues, including various noises and the most likely cause. See if any of those descriptions match what you are hearing.
+1 on bad gears and/or installation in the rear axle. Presuming the gear installer has a warranty, take it back to them for a listen. Sound is vibration, and it can eventually damage and break stuff in the more extreme cases.
