I purchased a 2007 JKU last summer. I am wanting to change shocks but I'm unsure what the lift may be.. old owner said it was a 1.5 but he did not install it, but I measured 2.5. Not sure what to do at this point. Are there better ways to figure out. Just want to put the correct items back on.
I sort of just went through this on a new to me 2017 JKU. I ended up with a 2.5 and just ordered the FOX 2.0 Performance shocks from Extreme Terrain. The are listed as covering a range of lifts from 1.5 to 3.5. I suspect this is a common theme with most other shocks. So if you're sure you have a 2.5 you should be good if the shock of choice is within that range. Bilstein 5100's B8's offer a similar range but differ from front to rear but still fit the range.
Hope this helps. I've only had my Jeep for a week so bare with me.
Steering looks all factory....TB, DL, TR, and BJs. Rancho RS9000XL shocks, brake line drop brackets. I see no bump stops front or rear, no coil spacers and hard to tell what brand coil so that is a crapshoot. Factory control arms....I see no cam bolts up front, and frame side mounts not pictured buy you would tell if there were control arm brackets. In the rear it does have a raised TB bracket on the axle. I'd say someone threw springs under it with some shocks at the time, for the most part.
Freshening up the steering would not be a bad idea. Fresh shocks probably goes a long ways. Springs/actual lift height are what they are. The ARB diff covers are nice quality items, and not cheap.

I just had Ball joints changed this week. Im looking to get TB, DL, and TR done also. I will get bump stops. I want a fresh set of shocks, just didnt know what size to buy, not sure if the guy before me did anything right on it he did say it had skyjacker shocks on it before he changed out shocks. The Rancho 9000s i believe are shot. Its got some sway and really loose steering, and bump steer. Just trying to get it back into a decent rig that isnt going to cause steering issues or be unsafe.
The BJ did look a bit clean but I couldn't spot a grease zerk on the upper. Did you just put factory back in there? Bumpsteer could be a byproduct of lower caster if there is no means of correction, or a shot joint, or a combination.
Look at the base of the shock for a part number starting with RS9XXXX and that will give us an idea (hopefully) on lift height
Get the last 3 numbers, that will do it.
Thanks Matt
Also bump steer/loose feeling/sway maybe an issue wtih caster
