Check out the all American (N.C.) made Freedom Flyer. Straps to my spare tire, with two very secure ratchet straps. Adjustable to any size tire. Solid, well made. Really identifies me where ever I go. Gets lots of waves, honks and thumbs up from everyone along the road. Remember everyone after 911 had a flag of some design on their car? Magnets, decals...... Where are they now? How soon the forget. I love this attachment.

There was a time long ago (I'm 71) when if it started to rain, the flag was lowered and stored until that rain had passed. Then came all-weather flags and it was okay to leave them out. Because they wouldn't mildew like the old cotton ones did. This was in the same U.S. code that says to stand as the flag passes, etc. It's a sign of respect to keep the flag clean. I know there are folks who think it's great to have an old beat up flag flying. I know this because I have literally retired thousand of U.S. flags over the years and witnessed how far past their useful service they've been flown. Thousands. But, again, that's contrary to what that same U.S. code dictates. A flag is to be either cleaned, or retired (preferably by burning), once it is no longer fit for service. Bottom line is, here's the U.S. code: "(e) The flag should never be fastened, displayed, used, or stored in such a manner as to permit it to be easily torn, soiled, or damaged in any way." What all of this is leading up to is, I hope that you put that flag away when you were out on those trails.
