Question Are they necessary?

I picked up my JK 8 days ago and I am shopping for lifts as we speak and i am shopping fast. i cant sit stock, its against my beliefs, Customization is needed to make something your own.

What i want to ask though is the lifts that do not come with control arms of any sort, do they ride that bad? With the Jks can you get away with this on the stock arms, i fee llike if i went with a econo lift i would kick myself later.

I want 35's in the worst way, but i believe in doing it right. But if i do go out of the econo lift area i was looking at the RE 3.5 lift...any opinions on that at all?

I would say anything by RE would be a good kit.

I personally went OME .....

Getting it installed on Thursday. I got adjustable track bars with my kit.

As far as the control arms. I don't think they are 'needed' but would be nice if you want to dial in your jeep the way you want it.

New drive shafts would be nice too.

I plan on getting everything in time for mine, probably spaced 3-4 months for each part. Ill eventually have the OME lift, Adj Control arms, and new driveshafts. So in roughly a years time ill have all the stuff I need to have a more 'complete' setup.

I went with a ProComp 4" which uses stock CAs. My castor is about 4.7 degrees (close to stock) and when funds open up a little bit I'll purchase adjustable Upper CAs to dial in the castor to around 7-8 per WOL's write-up. First on my list is an Adjustable Front Trackbar as I measured my front axle this weekend and its off by about a 1/2 inch.

The ride isn't horrible, but once the geometry is 100%, I'll bet it rides a lot better. So my opinion (and I'm sure many others here as well) is to spend the money on getting your geometry settled and you'll find a much more enjoyable ride.

Not sound dumb, but how do you measure for this? I installed my lift last week and would like to know how far off I am.

I've enjoyed my 3" terraflex w/o control arms. very capable off road, and still a good highway driver.

You'll find this write-up from WOL invaluable going forward after your lift. Scroll down a little bit and it explains recentering your axle and how to measure.

Cheers!

do you need to align after you adjust the axle?

I had it aligned about 2 weeks before I lifted. After the lift it was still aligned well. My axle is off-center about 1/2" but I don't think that'll have a bearing on the alignment once it comes back to center after the trackbar install. I did center the steering wheel but that might've been off before the lift... can't remember.

So, after your lift drive and see how things feel. If you're pulling one way or the other, check your geometry. If you're in check, bring it to the dealer and have them align you.
