Gear Storage
I just got my new recovery gear box. It's so much more visually appealing than other external options (think trasharoo). Now I have to see how this thing does on the trail. Has anyone tried one of these?
I'll update this thread after I test it out this weekend if anyone else is curious.
I watched your previous thread. I know there are a few here that really like the trasharoo, @kejtar being one of them. Sorry you didn't get some responses....but not really one of those items many people have. That look isn't my preference, regardless of storage, but we all have different needs and opinions. If it works for you and you like it, that is all that matters.
If anyone happens to be looking for internal storage solutions I purchased XG Cargo's Gamma mounted sportsbar storage bags and absolutely love them. https://xgcargo.com/products/jl-gama...13204535803965 (I know that link says JL but there's an option for JK too) They were easy to mount, don't rattle or make any noise over bumps or on the trail and make use of that area of the Jeep that usually ends up being unused space.
The stock carrier is supposed to hold 85 lbs I believe. I'm not sure how much my tire weighs, probably 55-65? I don't have very many things in the box so far so it shouldn't be a problem but I do need to look up my tire weight to be sure
If you ever do have hinge concerns, you could replace those factory hinges with the MORryde hinges that can be purchased separately. Those are a lot more heavy duty and their system is modular so you can get just the hinges alone without a full tire carrier system if you don't need/want that. I guess one thing to keep in mind is not just the weight, but it's sitting pretty far out off the tailgate so it has a bit more leverage too.

Something else to think about with it sticking out is when you’re off-road, some of the creek crossings at my deer lease if I’m not careful when my rear axle drops into the bottom, my spare is right at ground level and could drag, any farther back and it would, I don’t do any rock crawling, but I could see the same thing happening there, I have a drop hitch that I turn upside down that comes up right under my spare that protects it some, but wouldn’t go that far back to protect that too
