Default Shutting seatbelt in the door

Seems like lately I’ve been shutting the door and the seatbelt is across the striker, door doesn’t shut but bounces back, then I look down and say to my self, self, you should’a paid attention to the seatbelt, anyway, I figure over time if I keep not paying attention it’ll eventually wear on the seatbelt, or the door will shut and jam up the latch on the striker.
The seatbelts in that thing get aggravating, I shut them in the door with the doors on, and with the doors off, they flap in the wind enough to almost make me wanna wear earplugs,
Texas law, and most anywhere, you’ve gotta wear them, and it is safer to, so I can’t take them out.

just blowing off a little seat belt steam

Damn, I have the other half of a perfect match I guess cuz my wife manages to do that in any and every single vehicle we own. It doesn't matter if it's driver or passenger side even....there is something about her and seatbelts and I have not been able to wrap my head around it.

The retractor on my seat belt can be a little weak on the take up after I unbuckle. I think it's a habit now for me to help it wind back in. Doors off though, I have a solid fix for the flapping. I use those cheap seat belt pads, but on the door side of the belt. It effectively stops the flapping for me. Doesn't help with the seatbelt retraction issue, and I take them off when I put the doors back on in the fall, but it's a great fix. You can see them in this pic

Dat, I have the same issue and do the check like I would flying a plane (loose objects). Mainly training the passenger though for same belt problem. I have thought about taking the trim off and blowing the retractor mechanism with air to get the crap out. Still thinking!!

I really have to think there is something about the way some folks remove the belt. I mean seriously, my wife does this constantly with the exact same seat belts that I never have an issue with. I've never watched to see what she specifically does, but maybe i need to start observing.

I figure my retractor is weak, or dirty, but a lot is probably just me not paying attention

X's 2 on the seatbelt protection pads. I picked up 4 from Autozone for my 2 door and haven't been bothered by them since. I read an article a few years back from a JK owner that was complaining about the problematic retract. He said that he had his seatbelts steam cleaned thoroughly, and that helped them to retract better. I have no clue about whether or not that would work...but I could see it having some merit. Years of dust, mud, etc. embedding down into the seatbelt itself could stiffen it up and make it a little harder to bend and slide through the 180 degree buckle at the top. Not to mention what direct sunlight can do to fabric. Just some food for thought!
