Like the title says, I used to run Goodyear Wrangler MT/R with Kevlar and it looks like their all out of stock or on back order, what is everyone running in the rocks that is durable and available?
Here in Texas we don't have to deal with wintery conditions so Toyo Open Country MTs and Nitto Trail Grapplers are popular gotos. I've run both. I really liked my Trail Grapplers and they were a bit quieter than my current Toyos. Both are typically E-rated tires in most sizes, so ride is a bit rougher on pavement, but I prefer E-rated tires for little more durability off road where I travel. I've never been much of a BFG fan but people sure seem to like those offerings. Those Kevlar MTs used to be pretty popular here till there was a big period of time they had balancing issues.....idk if bad production or what. I don't see many of them around me anymore. Lot of people tend to go with those dang Milestar Patagonias....I guess due to price. Not a fan myself.
Anyone else with any tire inputs to play in the rocks? Any thoughts on these three: Nitto Ridge Grapplers or BFG T/A K02's or Goodyear Wrangler Ultraterrain tires?
To follow up, I installed the Pat MT's last night, replacing the 60% worn KO2's on the Wrangler, and took it for a spin. They surprised me at how quiet they are and smooth despite the aggressive tread pattern. They felt slightly more 'twitchy' than the KO2's but I was pretty happy with them on the maiden voyage.
Weights on my home scale.
32.5" "E" rated KO2s on factory steel 16x7 wheels (86 lbs) with spacers (90 lbs)
34.7" Pats on 17x9 aluminum wheels (92 lbs)
The pats suck on the trail. The "underground" following are people that are cheap and believe skinny blonds on instagram. I see them on the trails all the time and they don't hook up. I would only run them on a daily driver that does not see wet or snow.
OP, the trail grapplers or the KM3's would be my choice in tires for a mildly built jeep that is a daily driver with weekend trails.
Thanks everyone for the input. I am going to purchase the trail grapplers from the sponsor "discount tire" on here. They have given me a reasonable price and I can't wait to get them onto the new beadlocks i ordered and get them on the road!
Falkens are a beast of a tire. I learned the hard way that mud terrains change the whole ride of the Jeep. They look cool, but if not on dirt 50%+ of the time, not worth it. I even had siping done to my mudders to help me get over Berthod Pass in the winters.
Finally, I just read reviews and kept seeing Falken at the top of lists (for non-Jeepers). So, looked to see if they made 37s. I have never been happier. The ride on-road has never been better. The siping is incredible for rain and ice. I do give up some traction on mud and sand, but that's why I have a winch!
