Just swapped to a set of raceline beadlocks and moved my 37” General Grabbers over to them. Install went fine and with some research I added 10.5oz of balance beads to each tire during install, but I am still feeling wobble at higher speeds (this did not exist on the old wheels with stick on weights). Can I add more balance beads, or is there a better way?
I have 37” Cooper Sst pros on kmc beadlocks. I tried balance beads when they were new and couldn’t get them to work. The shop swore the tires were just bad and that’s why they wouldn’t balance. I went to another shop and had them clean the wheels out and use normal weights, my tires have been problem free since.
Every time I look up balance beads, it’s hit or miss on the reviews. Some people love them and others have never had good results with them.
Balance Beads are sold in a quantity per the tire and wheel size.. The shop that installed tires on our 3500 Trucks ordered bead packs per the tire and wheel size. ONLY problem we experienced was a bead would get stuck in the schrader valve and we had low or flat tire. There are special valves for use with tire beads. Personally, I am not a fan of balance beads
I have known several that have tried them on big tires and can't recall anyone that was happy with them 37s and larger. For me it's good old fashion balancing with stick on weights. Even with beadlocks you can find places here and there that will balance them. I have two independent shops around me that will. One of them I have to take the wheels to them off the jeep and the other will simply do it like any other place.
I went through this issue with balance beads for a while. I tried it on 35's and 37's, combos with weights, etc. I tried everything. Nothing worked. I couldn't get my 37" Nitto Trail grapplers to balance. Then, I tried something different. I bought a can of good quality airsoft beads and measured precisely 12 ounces for each tire. Voila! I can drive without vibration at any speed, even when returning from a muddy wheeling session. I was amazed and it was way more inexpensive than the packs, etc that truckers use or any other commercial product.
