Default Axles and Gears for Hemi JKU

I have a 2014 JK Unlimited Sport.

Planning on swapping to a AMW 505 (6.4L / 392) or a 606 (7.0L / 426) Hemi w/ 8-speed auto transmission.

I’m not planning on running massive tires: BF Goodrich All-Terrain KO2 34x10.50R17 (basically 33.5”).

I am pretty heavy though (100lb front bumper, 100lb rear bumper, 100lb Gobi rack, 200lb rooftop tent, will get a winch…).

I’m looking at several axle options:

First, the AMW 60/80 package. It comes with long travel drive shafts, and is geared at 4.88. Seems like a good choice as it’s tailor made for the Hemi swap.

Second, the Dynatrac Elite ProRock 60/80 axle set. It comes with trackbars, a tie rod and drag link. It can be geared 4.88 and up. I already have Teraflex HD trackbars and tie rod + drag link though, so these parts seem redundant.

Third, Dana Ultimate 60s. These come in 4.10, 4.88 and up. Both previous options only allow ARB air lockers. This option allows air or electric lockers.

If I go with the Dynatrac or Dana’s, I’ve been looking at Adam’s driveshafts. Anyone know if these are long enough for the Hemi swap?

Any advice on the best axles and most appropriate gearing ratio for my plan would be much appreciated.

Take a look at and consider the Fusion4x4 axles. It doesn't seem you're gonna be out there climbing big rocks, but I've seen a couple buddys' UD60s blow up several times that I just SMH, and every damn DT product I've had just makes me SMH at that company too (front PR44 has been serviceable at best, been through few pairs of their ball joints and currently have a rear PR60 with under 15k miles that leaks where the axle tube is pressed into the pumpkin). Their customer service is extremely frustrating IMO as well. I guess if you're a YouTube baller they take care of you but otherwise it's a joke.

It all depends on how hard you want to push the Jeep. As Resharp suggested Fusions are good. Based on my much smaller HP 5.3LT you will find the first gear in the bigger trannies is plenty to get you going due to the ratio and may find 4.10 gears just fine. I run the same tire diameter as you are planning and with 4.10 gears I am at about 1850 at 70mph by GPS. And the jump to 8 gears is amazing. I would measure and get custom built driveshafts once you are near completion. Takes away any margins for error. Local guy in my city did mine but remember please you need to lube the CV pivot section every 3000-4000miles with grease.

Yeah I just looked at the fusion. Lifetime warrantee on shafts and steering components. No ball joints.. And it can be geared in 4.10, 4.56, or 4.88, so lots of flexibility. Seems like a pretty compelling option.

Reading more on the Adam’s drive shafts, it looks like they can be made to order, so waiting to get the measurements right seems like the best bet to ensure they fit perfectly.

Yes, certainly wait on that till axles are under it. You might check your local options too. Sometimes that is cheaper, sometimes not.

I spoke with a representative from Fusion 4x4 and he also advised that 4.10 might be ideal for this situation. Looking at their 60/44 Hybrid Front & Semi-Float 60 Rear package. Seems like a good compromise as I can keep all my steering components and trackbars. That’s what I’m thinking now.

FWIW I just went most of this route. Installed a rear Fusion semi float 60 on my 2010 as part of my engine swap and coilovers install. Haven’t driven it yet, hopefully any day. I’m leaving my front 44 in for now since I already trussed it and did RCV’s. If it’s not enough for my power and use I’ll go the hybrid fusion as you are contemplating. Shop and friends I wheel with were all very positive on Fusion and pretty down on most other options. Be prepared to wait a while for it though…
