Default Auto Trans Pan with drain plug for W5A580

Recently, I was looking at transmission pan upgrades for my 2016 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sahara, and found something interesting. Most factory Mercedes NAG1/W5A580 trannies have a drain plug. I ended up cross referencing with aftermarket Dorman/Euro pans and found the part number for a genuine Mercedes pan if you want a pan with a drain plug.

Trans Pan - Mercedes-Benz (140-270-08-12)

1996-2018 Mercedes-Benz - 1402700812

Some places have it for around 110 bucks. Great solution if you do not wanna buy some Chinese stuff, and do not want to alter your exhaust for larger aftermarket solutions.

I considered a drain pan with a plug before, but I ended up deciding that just buying a nice mittyvac to suck the ATF out of the dipstick was an easier solution, and it was a tool that I would also be able to use for various other tasks. They are handy to have. One or the other is a must though. I tried a controlled spill one time.....it was beyond comical.

I hear ya! 😂🤣😂🤣
I have a Topsider Pump and it works well, but I am probably gonna do the drain pan with plug and one of those foldable funnel/ramp things to drain the pan into a basin.
