Default 34s & 4.88s = Too Much??

OK, folks.....I have search for hours looking for these threads with no luck to what I'm looking for. So, I Really need your opinion. I have a 6 speed manual, 3.21s, and 295/75. I must regear. The 4.56s are delayed yet again and I can't continue waiting.

Bottomline: I don't want to be running greater than 2500 RPMs at 65 MPH.

Could I do 4.88s?

Call me retarded but I just can't get those darn calculator charts to work for me. Sorry for another gear thread...Any help is appreicated! Experienced, knowledgeable folks speak to me......

Yes, 4.88's is what you will want and IMHO, a better fit than 4.56's.

I'm going to go with 4.88's in my jeep with either ox lockers or arb lockers. I haven't researched it yet but that will likely be my combo. My jeep can't go in overdrive since the lift because it is constantly downshifting. I'm going to try to do mine sometime in the next few months.

Do you know if that will put me Tacking greater than 2500 rpm on the highway say about 65 mph.

One of the boys at my gear shop told me I was "CRAZY" and it was "TOO MUCH." I say "WHO CARES, IT'S MY JEEP" But I don't want to be driving around on the Highway blowing up my engine.......Could be problem-matic..LOL

FYI.....Not a daily driver but I do take alot of trips with highway driving involoved. LIGHT Wheeling once a month.

According the calculater I use, with the 6 speed and 34" tires it will put you a little over 2600 rpm at 65 mph with 4.88's and it would be 2460 rpm with 4.56's

Well given that, I lean more towards 4.56s tacking 2460 but thats not an Option right now.

So, Now to ponder 2600 rpm = Too Much Torque?? Uhmmm......

Any others Experience with 4.88s and 34s??

Trust me, with the 3.8L engines we have, you will not regret going with 4.88's. In fact, I am willing to bet you will thank me as it will get your Jeep feeling/performing like it should have right out of the box

You could also keep your eyes open for a set of low mileage used 4.10's from someone who upgraded gears for even larger tires.
