Default Soft 8 backspacing help

Im looking at the Crager soft 8s for winter driving and offroading. Im going to run 37x12.50x17s Hankooks. The soft 8s come in two 17" sizes.

17x8 with 4.5 BS
17x9 with 5" BS

Which size should I get?

Default 17x9

I would recommend the 17x9. I just installed a set of 35s on 17x9 rims with 5" of backspacing. I haven't noticed any issues with rubbing. The 17x9 rim with 5" of backspacing will put the inner sidewall at the exact same spot as the 17x8 with 4.5" of backspacing. For most tire manufactures 17x8 rims fall outside the recommended range for 37x12.50 tires. 17x9 would be perfect.

Well, how are those 37's doing on the 4.75in of backspacing??? Can you move the wheel full lock and get under and see how much clearance there is??? Maybe park one tire up on a curb to get a better idea???

Im not sure if you are trying to be a smart a$$ or not with the curb comment. My JK hasnt been offroad yet. I have a trail bronco for the crazy rails, 4 link, King coilovers, King 3way Bypass shocks, and tons of other goodies. The JK will see some mild offroad real soon though.

The 4.75s are fine but are super close. The 5" will probably be fine. I guess I could just adjust the bumpstops. Are there any other issues to worry about with 5" backspaced wheels?

Lol... not trying to be a smart ass... I figured putting one tire up on a curb would give you a better idea of how much real-world or day-to-day clearance you would have.

I was trying to think of what else you could prop the jeep up on... but I couldn't think of anything

Forgive me if I did come off as a smart ass though
