Default Bestop Safari top

Anyone having any issues with the Bestop Safari top?..I am..even when I have it installed exactly how the directions say and as tight as I can...it still wants to catch air in the rear and bang like a bass drum . It is great on the trails but not on the freeways. I have tried all different configurations with the tie down straps but to no avail...........

yea, the Safari top sucks. got mine to provide a sun shade for my puppy. But you are right. flaps like hell. I was thinking of this for a while. take a length of black PVC the length between the roll bars so that it will rest on the roll bar, 1" maybe. get Stainless Steel snaps from a boating place and snap the top to the PVC, maybe 6 across. may be rigid enough to keep it from flapping???????????

I thought about something like that or like the old cj's did..they had straps that went straight down on both sides to the back of the Jeep..but..got in the way of the tailgate...might try something like you are suggesting..good idea...

hmmmm it seems the reason it starts flapping is that it actually moves forward from the back an inch or two..that gives it enough slack to flap...might drill holes in the rear facing roll bar down tube to put an eyebolt in and tie off the rear ties to that instead of the seat belt ( which is corny if you ask me) this way it can't move forward and hence can't flap?

Yeah bro, Safari tops in general are going to bang around at high speeds because of the air flow...you have air coming in through where the side windows would be, and when they twirl around the back, they bounce around - it sucks, I know...but that's why I'm getting the bikini top and duster deck cover. It will save my MPG and not have any airflow traffic like your safari top.

There's really nothing you can do to keep it from bouncing around, that's just how safari tops are on the road.

I have the Safari Top for the 4 Door and have no problems. I do know that when I had my Safari top on before I got my soft top and all the mounting hardware it would flap up and down on the highway. The factory soft top window frames have channels to slip the plastic around the Safari top into and hold it nice a tight. If you have a soft top are you using those channels?

So I put my safari top on this afternoon and it did the same thing. I only had it on for about a week last year before I had to put my hard top on for winter.

I have a solution though. Take a towel and roll it up so its really long and skinny. Sandwich it in between the top and the sound bar. Works just fine. Plus its always great to have a towel to clean up any water that may get in if you happen to get caught in a storm. Hope that helps!
