Default Why are 33x12.5x16 lighter than 33x12.5x17

I am a little out of the loop regarding tire weights. In almost every weight listing I see that the 33" x 16 tires are lighter than the 33x17 tires. Do the factory listed weights include approximate wheel/rim size?

If not... wouldnt it be that the 16's are heavier considering the tire would have more rubber...

what am I missing?

well ... wouldn't you need more rubber to make it around the 17" diameter rim?

16" circumference = 50.24"
17" circumference = 53.38"

The circumference of the wheel would actually make it less material...

a 17" wheel with circumference of 53".. the tire is still 33" so the sidewall would be smaller... because the rim would take up more area....

maybe 16" rims are more of an LT thing with higher load ratings and 17" is more of a passenger tire size

Could it be the Tread Depths or lug depth????? Could the 16's have a smaller tread depth on some tires than the 17's???

Look at the weights of 18 and 20 tires.
