Question Rock Rails/Rock Sliders/Body Armor

Ok - totally newbie question - Planning for my 1st off road excursion to Uwharrie in May - Have a pretty much stock 2dr Wrangler - came with elec disco and pushbutton rearlocker - ordered a LoD midwidth bumper. I have the mopar sidesteps but assume I want/need rock rails/sliders?

1) Are rock rails and rock sliders the same thing? I think they are

2) Any suggestions on brand? It looks like Body Armor and Mopar have direct bolt on (no drilling)

TIA

I've done some research and there are so many versions of rails, sliders, steps, guide etc that you can really pick from quite a few vendors. What you need to do is determine what you need. purely bolt on to factory holes, protection, steps....

If you need steps and are looking for protection I'd go with the shrockworks or atozfabrication if you are not looking to drill into the body. If you want to spend more, then ARB has some nice ones.

Or-fab is coming out with a new set and I beleive they are available now but without the steps.

If you are looking for a body mount then Poison Spider is a good version.

Most of these vendors can be seen at quadratec site.

Northridge4x4 has some of these like shrockworks and ARB brand.

Narrow down what is the needs and then go priceshopping if your not loyal to any one vendor. Also another good place to check out a few vendors who are into making Offroad parts for the JK go to the EJS MOAB vendor thread here as you can see some of the variety of the vendors who at least make the different sliders.

I went atoz but narrowed it down to them or shrockworks.

i just installed my shockworks rails today. I am VERY impressed on the quality, look, and how solid they mount to the jeep. I chose the shockworks rails because they mount directly to the frame. They mount on the 2-door by using two threaded stock locations on the bottom of the frame, and then you drill three additional holes on the side of the frame. Very easy to install.

That would be my suggestion also.

Uwharrie is actually very friendly to stock vehicles. Your biggest concern there will be with the height on certain trails.
A BB and 33's are perfect for most of their trails (and for starting out).

You'll have a great time.

Talking

Consider protecting the evap canister, and your oil pan before heading out as well.

So, yep, sliders = rock rails, but, steps are the things that break off - off road.

Shrock's stuff has been amazing...but anything that helps to protect the rocker panels and pinch seams, etc...is a plus.

If you do not have recovery gear...snatch strap, shovel, jack that works off road, full sized 5th tire as a spare, etc...get that too.

Yes, I talked to zach about 2 weeks ago and the lazer cutting came out bad and he just got a replacement batch and needed to test fit before sending for powdercoating. I haven't heard anything so I'm calling him tomorrow. I really don't want to wait any longer and might just canel the order and bite the bullet and wait for the shrockworks.

That sucks. I wonder what the wait time is for shrockworks. The poison spyder stuff looks cool too.
